It all depends on how much money you have. If you are rich, these are small homes, if you are poor these homes are huge.

I sense jealousy born of urbanized angst...if you can afford a big home, you buy one..if you cant, you dont,...crying about the good fortune of others says more about yourself...

I've been researching small or hand-made homes such as cob, straw bale and many of those were quite compact. Other homes were labelled as 'tiny homes' but those tiny homes were on a 100 square foot footprint of space! That's 10 feet x 10 feet (or similar size). Within that concept, everything is designed compact with sliding doors into walls, pull out ladder to get to the sleeping.

However, this article seems to be referring to 'compact homes' but talking about a book of 25 homes less than 3000 square feet. I also find the idea of "3000 square feet" being considered compact to be quite bizarre.

But online there are some very interesting homes to be looked at which are really very compact. There are even some made from those rectangular shipping containers you'll see stacked on container ships and loaded onto trains. Even several of those as interconnected sections of a hose could still be quite compact.

I had my 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom 1530 square foot home built back in 1998 and I think the space is just right for a bachelor like myself. Any bigger is just unused space and any smaller I feel clausterphobic. Whenever Im at my friends 900 square foot home I feel cramped. So I think 1500 square feet of space per person is good. Donna, 10-15 kids in a 3000 square foot house would be EXTREMELY cramped. A house for 10 kids should be at least 15,000 square feet.

Is this a joke? Only in America right? Talk about a wasteful/consumer driven/me society if a 3000 square foot house is considered anything but huge. Family?- give me a break- for 10 to 15 kids maybe. Business?- I don't think so- this is talking about a home - if you combine your business then subtract that amount to find your 'home' living space .
