There’s increasing interest in electric motorcycles these days. Just like other electric vehicles, electric motorcycles don’t generate any emissions and are quiet. They and can go 30 miles on 5 cents worth of electricity. You may have seen the electric motorcycle featured in Popular Mechanics recently. Not long ago, the electric Killacycle set a world speed record, and another speedy electric bike, the Lightning Lithium E1, was on display in San Francisco.

But while it’s easy to buy an electric scooter, there are still no electric motorcycles being mass produced today. However, there are a few companies, like Thunderstruck-EV.Com and ElectricMotorSport.com, that will convert your existing motorcycle into an electric model. ElectricMotorSport also sells motorcycles that have been already converted to use electric power.

The fellow in this video, Mike, created a powerful electric motorcycle using simple retrofits. He took a Derbi GPR-50, removed the gas motor, and installed an electric drive system. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 9 seconds, and it has a top speed of about 75 mph.
